UNDER THE BOMBS

Zeina é xiita e vive no Dubai. O seu filho Karim está a viver temporariamente em Kherbert Selem, uma pequena aldeia no sul do Líbano com a sua irmã. A guerra eclode no Líbano. Muito preocupada, Zeina parte para o Líbano entrando pela Turquia. Devido ao bloqueio, ela só chega ao porto de Beirute no dia do cessar-fogo onde conhece Tony. Ele é cristão, vive em Beirute e é taxista. Tony e Zeina têm pouco em comum mas nestas circunstâncias isso pouco interessa. Quando chegam a Kherbert Selem, a vila está em ruínas. A irmã de Zeina foi assassinada e All, um jovem, diz-lhes que Karim foi levado dali por jornalistas franceses. Zeina e Tony partem em busca da criança perdida...

Zeina is a Shiite and lives in Dubai. She sends her son Karim to stay with her sister in Kherbet Selem, a small village, South of Lebanon. A few days later the war breaks out in Lebanon. Desperately worried, Zeina heads to Lebanon via Turkey. Because of the blockade she doesn't reach the port of Beirut until the day of the ceasefire. Then she meets Tony. He’s a Christian, lives in Beirut and is a taxi driver. They have little in common but under these circumstances, that is irrelevant. When they get to Kherbet Selem, the town is in ruins. Zelna's sister has been killed and All, a young boy, tells them that Karim has been taken away by French journalists. Zeina and Tony set out in search of the lost child...

Philippe Aractingi
De origem franco-libanesa, Philippe Aractingi nasceu em 1964 em Beirute, onde cresceu. Já realizou mais de 40 filmes à volta do mundo, entre reportagens, documentários e filmes de cunho mais pessoal. Autodidacta e humanista, Philippe Aractingi passou 12 anos em França regressando ao Líbano para realizar Bosta, o primeiro musical pós-guerra do país. Bosta foi um verdadeiro sucesso no Líbano e em todo o mundo árabe, tendo sido estreado em mais de 20 países. O filme foi indigitado para representar o Líbano nos óscares em 2006. Em Julho de 2006, quando o seu país foi de novo arrasado pela guerra, Philippe Aractingi, reagiu de imediato, filmando a sua segunda longa-metragem em cenário de guerra: Sous les bombes.

Of franco-libanese origins, Philippe Aractingi was born in 1964 in Beirut where he grew up. He has made more than 40 films around the world, ranging from reports and documentaries to more personal films. A self taught and a humanist, Philippe Aractingi spent 12 years in France before returning to his native Lebanon to make Bosta, the country’s first post-war musical. Bosta, a huge success in Lebanon and all over the Arab world, has been released over twenty countries. It was selected to represent Lebanon at the 2006 Oscars Academy Award. In July 2006, as war once again ravaged his country, Philippe Aractingi reacted, in the heat of the moment, by shooting his second feature film: Under the bombs.
